Grade system in karate
Karate is a martial art that originated in Okinawa, Japan, and is based on the use of the hands, feet and other parts of the body as weapons. The grade system in karate is used to indicate the level of skill and knowledge of a practitioner. Grades are divided into two categories: kyu and dan. Kyu grades range from 10 to 1, with 10 being the lowest and 1 being the highest. Dan grades range from 1 to 10, with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. Kyu grades are represented by belts of different colors, while dan grades are represented by black belts with gold, white or red stripes. To advance in grade, practitioners must demonstrate their mastery of karate techniques, principles and philosophy in an examination. The grade system in karate is a way to motivate and recognize the progress of practitioners, as well as to encourage respect, discipline and humility.
