KARATE BELTS

The colors of the belts are not casual, each color has its meaning and represents a level of knowledge acquired by the karateka who wears it. Therefore, karate practitioners should know the meaning and act according to the level they hold in their belts.  Osu!

Meaning of belt colors

WHITE BELT

White reflects everything and absorbs nothing. It is so because it includes the whole range of colors. White symbolizes hope, purity, enthusiasm, the ability to achieve goals and absorb absolutely everything. Just as black, in its pure state does not exist in nature, after the first training, the white belt loses its purity. It absorbs sweat and dust, little by little the white belt begins to lose its modesty. Together with the black belt, it is the most important belt in the life of a karate student. The white belt symbolizes a beginning of the climb to the top, it is like a first step that begins every adventure. Every student who receives his first belt should rejoice. He should train concentrating on learning the rules of the Dojo, how to maintain the correct posture and how to be persistent. Even the greatest master will one day wear the white belt.

ORANGE BELT

After a few months of training, the white belt changed its hue, darkened... It was time to start the next stage and solve new challenges. The training of the orange belt is related to balance, stability and teaching the control of our body, posture, foot and leg work.

BLUE BELT

Simultaneously with the reception of the blue belt, the student begins a new stage of adaptation, learning to move fluidly and be flexible. In Japan this stage is called: mizu-iro-obi "step of the color of water" and symbolizes the fluidity of the movement of water, which remains the same regardless of whether it manifests itself as a stream, a wild river or an ocean wave. Water offers no resistance, it always moves out of the way, but only to surround and envelop. Water adapts itself to the shape of a cup and gently moves away from a rock, only to break it after a while... The training of the blue belt consists in overcoming the temptation to reduce the intensity of training, escaping from routine and monotony. It is the first lesson would be of self-control over oneself and the mind. Really dangerous is the one who controls his anger and emotions.

YELLOW BELT

The yellow color is linked to the third element, fire. At this stage the body of a karate adept is already elastic, agile and strong. He is aware of the strength of his techniques and feels the power in them. He begins to feel confident, while at the same time knowing that he has to follow the path of humility and sacrifice. Every person who wishes to achieve the yellow belt should be aware that mental strength is no less important than physical strength. The body and mind of an adept should be united. True strength depends on mental stimulation and control of the mind over the body. Karate is more than just a sport.

GREEN BELT

The green color is the mixture of yellow (element of fire) and blue (element of air and emptiness). The green belt represents the mastery of self-control and the development of a positive attitude towards people and the world. The difficulty of this stage is to realize that strength without wisdom and mercy represents only destruction. It is the time to recognize that we will never fully understand the absolute truth and that there is much more to everything around us than what our eyes and senses can see and feel. This is also the time to start taking care of ourselves by paying attention to our diet, since our body is the "temple of our soul" and "we are what we eat", seeking balance in everything we do and consume. The green belt symbolizes wisdom and love.

BROWN BELT

The brown belt feels his body perfectly, knows how to master all the techniques. The student who wears the brown belt knows how to control his negative emotions: anger, envy, exaggeration, malice, cunning, greed, falsehood. The apprentice with this level is brave, his will is made of steel and he has faith in the beauty of everything hidden that still awaits him. At the same time, he tirelessly looks back, studying with a critical eye the past stages of his own evolution in order to polish them and to be able to evolve. Thanks to his open mind, the adept wearing the brown belt is learning to respect the strength of others.

BLACK BELT

The black belt is the color of strength. Black is linked to dark blue. It surpasses the physical and the carnal. Anyone receiving a black belt should look inside himself and ask himself if he is mature enough. He should also be aware of the state of his own mind. You can fool everyone but not yourself. There is still a long way to go. True mastery reaches the one who never gives up, and never stops evolving and surpassing himself.
